Born on 10 June 1896 in London, England - brother of Richard McEwen, London, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in New Liskeard, Ontario; trade as laborer; single; currently a member of the 97th Regiment; no previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 7 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; grey eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 159th Battalion, CEF, in New Liskeard, Ontario, on 21 December 1915 (number 648599) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 June 1917 - wounded on 2 September 1918 - invalided to England on 6 September 1918.
