Private Joseph McKernan

Born on 25 July 1888 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania - cousin of Miss Catherine McKernan, Johnstown, Pennsylvania - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: trade as miner; single; no current military service; previously served in the American military (three years); Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 7 inches; chest of 44 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; grey eyes; black hair.

Joined the 97th Battalion, CEF, in Windsor, Ontario, on 15 March 1916 (number 208195) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 8 or 9 March 1917 - wounded on 3 September 1917 - invalided to England on 4 December 1917 - later served with the Canadian Ordnance Corps.
