Born on 7 July 1894 in Vancouver, British Columbia - son of the late A.D. and Hannabel McLellan, Vancouver, British Columbia - nickname "Mickey" - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as McGill student; single; no current or previous military service; Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; medium hair.
Attended Strathcona and Kitsilano Public Schools and King Edward High School - attended McGill College, British Columbia, in the faculty of Arts from 1913 to 1915.
Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 5 March 1915 (number 411036) - sailed for England in May 1915 - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in France on 16 July 1915 - wounded by machine gun fire on the Somme on 11 October 1915, losing his left eye - invalided to England - invalided to Canada in December 1915 and placed under medical treatment - discharged from the CEF in May 1916.
Attended the University of British Columbia in the faculty of Arts from 1917 to 1918 - was president-elect of the Arts Men's Undergraduate Society at UBC in 1918 - worked on a geodetic survey party at Claxton, British Columbia, when he drowned while swimming in the Skeena River on 18 June 1918.
