Private John Francis McGuire

Born on 16 July 1895 in Almonte, Ontario - son of Thomas C. McGuire, Almonte, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Almonte, Ontario; trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; weight of 140 pounds; fair complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 130th Battalion, CEF, in Pembroke, Ontario, on 7 January 1916 (number 788842) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 14 or 15 November 1916 - wounded on 10 April 1917 - invalided to England on 12 April 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 6 July 1917 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 23 November 1917 - invalided sick to England on 26 March 1918 - invalided to Canada for further medical treatment.

Some corrections needed. John Francis Mcguire one of my great uncles who served with the CEF in WW1. Regimental #788842.
Born Feb 14th 1895 on Allumette Isle, Pontiac, Quebec. Father: Thomas Gregory McGuire, mother Thressa Duff also of Allumette. Enlisted at Pembroke , Ontario Jan 7, 1916. Was gassed with chlorine gas. His father had him released from service and Lenham Hospital in 1919. This information from census and a family letter and an obit in my possession. Russ Taylor.

Additional Information from Russ Taylor. John Francis McGuire died Feb. 18, 1934 in Penticton, B.C. Age 39. Buried in Lakeview cemetery. Picture of veterans stone inscription: 7788842 Private 38th Battn CEF available at findagrave. Penticton Herald obit available. B.C. Death registration states cause of death: Pulmonary Tuberculosis. No autopsy done to check chlorine gas damage to lungs. Profession: X-ray tech. Wife Christine McGuire (also deceased).
