Private Rexford Hurlbert

Born on 29 May 1895 in Scranton, Pennsylvania - son of W.B. and Elizabeth Hurlbert, Smiths Falls, Ontario - next of kin listed as Mrs. George Whiting, Smiths Falls, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as fireman, single, no current or previous military service, Presbyterian, height of 5 feet 7.5 inches, chest of 35 inches fully expanded, ruddy complexion, hazel eyes, blonde hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 20 April 1915 (number 410773) - transferred to the 2nd Battalion, CEF, on 25 August 1915 - killed in action on 29 November 1915 - buried in R.E. Farm Cemetery (grave III.B.12), Belgium.
