Born on 4 July 1891 in Montreal, Quebec - next of kin listed as Reverend J. Ellis Ireland, Montreal, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as law student; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 7.1 inches; chest of 36.6 inches fully expanded; medium complexion; blue eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Montreal, Quebec, on 16 March 1915 (number 410972) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - killed in action on 2 June 1916 - name inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 10), Belgium.
