Born on 23 August 1897 in Point O'Gray, Michigan - son of Erastus Hurlbert, Kemptville, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Kemptville, Ontario, trade as labourer, single, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 3 inches, chest of 36.5 inches fully expanded, medium complexion, brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Kemptville, Ontario, on 24 March 1916 (number 639980) - reported recruited by Private James Shipman - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - killed in action on 30 October 1917 - name inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 10-18-26-28), Belgium.
