Born on 26 April 1877 in Cambridge, England - husband of S. Simpson, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address same as wife; trade as tinsmith and engineer; married; no current military service; previously served with the 16th Bedfordshires in England (eight years); Church of England; height of 5 feet 7.5 inches; chest of 41 inches fully expanded; medium complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 207th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 28 July 1916 (number 246624) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 September 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF, on 5 March 1918 - transferred to the 8th Canadian Army Employment Company, CEF, on 17 April 1918 - transferred to the 7th Canadian Army Employment Company, CEF, on 25 September 1918.
