Private Alexander Byron Sheppard

Born on 12 November 1879 in Poona[?], India - next of kin listed as Mrs. Adelain Sheppard, London, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as miner; single; no current military service; previously served with the Harts Volunteers Highlanders College (two years); Church of England; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 59th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 25 May 1915 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 22 June 1915 (number 410884) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - invalided sick to England on 19 April 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 11 November 1917 - transferred to the imperial army on 11 January 1918 in order to be commissioned.
