Lance-Corporal Joseph Cuthbert Shipton

Born in November 1892 in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia - son of George Walter Shipton and Eleanor Shipton, Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as biologist; single; currently a member of the Officers' Training Corps at Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph; previously served with the Officers' Training Corps Whitgift[?] Grammar School, London, England; Church of England; height of 5 feet 8.5 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair.

Earned a Bachelors of Science from University of Toronto.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Guelph, Ontario, on 17 March 1915 (number 411015) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - died of sickness on 16 January 1916 - buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery (grave II.B.14), France.
