Born on 24 May 1889 in Ottawa, Ontario - husband of Laura Olls, Toronto, Ontario - son of Charles and Emily Olls, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in February 1915: trade as carpenter; single; no current military service; previously served with the 5th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards (two camps); Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 5.75 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the [???] in Montreal, Quebec, on 14 November 1914 (number 1288757) - discharged for "miscondunt" on 9 December 1914 - joined the [???] in Ottawa, Ontario, on 1 February 1915 - discharged on 8 February 1915 - joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Barriefield Camp, Ontario, on 28 May 1915 (number 410571) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - struck off the strength of the 8th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 8 February 1918 - wounded on 15 March 1918 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 26 March 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 5 May 1919.
