Private Alvin Mertz

Born on 25 October 1886 in Waterloo County, Ontario - son of John Mertz, Lanigan, Saskatchewan - at the time of his conscription in 1918: present address in Lanigan, Saskatchewan; single; Presbyterian; trade as tinsmith; no current or previous military service; height of 5 feet 4 inches; chest of 37.5 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; blue eyes; dark hair.

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment, CEF, in Regina, Saskatchewan, on 21 March 1918 (number 258850) - taken on the strength of the 28th Battalion, CEF, on 6 September 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 21 or 22 September 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 5 May 1919.
