Born on 31 May 1894 in North Augusta, Ontario - son of Edward King, North Augusta, Ontario - brother of Private Ford Morton King, 38th Battalion, CEF, and Private Harold Edmund King, 38th Battalion, CEF - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Hartney, Manitoba; trade as farm labourer; single; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 7 inches; chest of 36.5 inches fully expanded; ruddy complexion; grey eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Hartney, Manitoba [?], on 15 March 1916 (number 292311) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - invalided to England on 2 November 1917 - later served with the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF.
