Born on 28 July 1889 in Prescott, Ontario - brother of Miss Hattie Kirkey, Prescott, Ontario - at the time of his conscription in 1918: present address in Prescott, Ontario; classified as a "defaulter"; married; Roman Catholic; trade as a labourer; no current or previous military service; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; medium complexion; brown eyes; dark hair.

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, CEF, in Barriefield, Ontario, on 17 May 1918 (number 4021667) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 10 or 11 October 1918 - wounded on 3 November 1918 - invalided to England on 10 November 1918.
