Private Elwood James Jones

(aka Edgar Harold Jones)

Born on 6 June 1896 in Hamilton, Ontario - son of Frank and Isabelle Jones, Hamilton, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Cobalt, Ontario; trade as machinist; single; currently a member of the 97th Regiment; no previous military service; Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 6 inches; chest of 34 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; brown eyes; dark hair.

Joined the 159th Battalion, CEF, in New Liskeard, Ontario, on 16 March 1916 (number 649453) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 June 1917 - killed in action on 30 October 1917 - name inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 10-18-26-28), Belgium.

The attestation papers indicate the correct regimental number is 648453.
