Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 4 May 1915 (number 410392) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - struck off strength to England of officers' training course on 27 September 1917 - commissioned as a lieutenant with the 7th Reserve Battalion - seconded to the Royal Flying Corps from 22 March 1918 to 10 January 1919.
Commissioned as a lieutenant with The Ottawa Highlanders on 15 March 1923 - [then] - promoted to lieutenant-colonel on 31 May 1936 - appointed commanding officer of The Cameron of Highlanders of Ottawa (M.G.) on 1 June 1936 - appointed commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (M.G.), on 1 September 1939 - resigned on 10 March 1942 - served as Honorary Colonel of The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa from 21 May 1982 to 20 May 1985.
