Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, CEF, in Kingston, Ontario, on 8 January 1918 (number 3055736) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 or 13 September 1918 - wounded on 27 September 1918 - invalided to England on 12 October 1918.
