Lieutenant Bond Roy Earl Heeney, MM

Born on 2 April 1895 in Aylwin, Quebec - son of Mrs. Mary Heeney, Aylwin, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as farmer, single, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 9.5 inches, chest of 36 inches fully expanded, dark[?] complexion, brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 59th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 31 May 1915 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 22 June 1915 (number 410770) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - sent to England for the Officers' Training Course on 10 May 1918 - commissioned as a Lieutenant and transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion on 5 November 1918 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 26 May 1919 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 7 November 1917: "During operations Oct. 29th to Nov. 2/17 this N.C.O. rendered conspicuously good service. He displayed good leadership and maintained good control of his men under the most trying conditions."

Awarded a Mentioned-in-Despatches - no official citation - unit recommendation date unknown: "For valuable services rendered."
