Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 19 July 1915 (number 410188) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - invalided sick to England on 21 December 1917.

Ok, this is strange, because he was my grandfather. As far as we knew, he had red hair and was the son of Samuel Scoular, whos wife was Elizabeth Shields. He was sent to Canada, in slavery, as a "home boy" from Quarriers orphanage in Scotand. He tried to covered his past and basically lied about everything, so it's really hard to find information on him. At one point, he assumed the identity of his sister's husband's ( Emmerson Arbuthnot's) brother inlaw, a Mr. Stanley Harrison. This is the name that our family has now, because of him! Grr. Who was this guy? The orphanage in Scotland has information on him, that I am waiting for so maybe I can find out who he really was.
And anyways, if he was the son of someone named William Foster, why would his and his sister's last names be Scoular? Something fishy here. Unless Foster was the name of the family that bought him from Quarriers. He was kept as a slave and had to sleep in the barn with the animals. That is why he joined the war.
