Born on 29 December 1886 in Tallindale, Ontario - husband of Ida Hayward, Toronto, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as teamster, married, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 7 inches, chest of 37.5 inches, dark complexion, light brown eyes, dark hair.

Joined the 83rd Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 22 July 1915 (number 171117) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 11 or 12 July 1917 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 17 November 1917 - joined the 2nd Detachment, Canadian Garrison Regiment, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 2 July 1919.
