Born on 1 January 1894 in Montreal, Quebec - husband of Ethel Isabell Garvin, Montreal, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as insurance agent, married, no current military service, previously served with the Victoria Rifles of Canada (five years), Methodist, height of 5 feet 5.5 inches, chest of 35 inches fully expanded, ruddy complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 17 May 1915 (number 410278) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded on 29 September 1918 - attached to General Headquarters 3rd Echelon on 18 December 1918 - struck off the strength of [?] on 15 January 1919.
