Joined the 7th Battalion, CEF, in Valcartier, Quebec, as a captain on 23 September 1914 - landed in France with the 7th Battalion on 9 February 1915 - wounded on 25 May 1915 - invalided to England on 17 June 1915 - promoted to temporary major on 3 November 1915 - seconded as the brigade major of the 11th and 14th Enf. Brigades in England from 21 December 1915 to 16 June 1916 - rejoined the 7th Battalion on 16 June 1916 - promoted to temporary lieutenant-colonel on 20 July 1916 - wounded on 3 October 1916 - invalided to England on 10 October 1916 - seconded as the brigade commander of Canadian Troops Shoreham from 21 October to 30 December 1916 - seconded as the brigade commander of the 3rd Reserve Brigade from 31 December 1916 to 21 September 1917 - seconded as the officer commanding Canadian Troops Seaford from 22 September 1917 to 28 August 1918 - promoted to acting colonel on 2 January 1917 - relinquished rank of acting colonel on 29 August 1918 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, as lieutenant-colonel and commanding officer on 29 August 1918 - wounded on 28 September 1918 - died of his wounds on 30 September 1918 - buried in Duisans British Cemetery (grave VII.A.85), France.
