Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Montreal on 11 March 1915 (number 410957) - transferred to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 17 July 1915 - wounded on 17 January 1917 - [left the CEF] - rejoined the CEF in Montreal, Quebec, on 18 October 1917 as a lieutenant - later promoted to captain - seconded to the Deputy Branch of the Adjutant-General in Ottawa from 1 April 1918 to 15 April 1919.
