Born on 8 May 1895 in Shannonville, Ontario - son of Edith Winters, Shannonville, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Belleville, Ontario; trade as cement worker; single; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 2 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; brown eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 155th Battalion, CEF, in Belleville, Ontario, on 21 February 1916 (number 636675) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.
