Born on 27 April 1884 in Hull, Yorkshire, England - son of John Roberts, Hull, Yorkshire, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Trenton, Ontario; trade as accountant; single; no current military service; previously served with the 2nd East Yorkshire Volunteer Artillery; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 40 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; light hair.

Joined the 254th Battalion, CEF, as a sergeant in Trenton, Ontario, on 23 December 1916 (number 1093182) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 28 or 29 March 1918 - wounded on 29 September 1918 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 12 November 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 5 May 1919.
