Private John Daniel Mooney

Born on 24 August 1886 in Iona, Ontario - husband of Mrs. C. Mooney, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address same as wife; trade as civil servant; married; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 6.25 inches; chest of 37.5 inches fully expanded; medium complexion; blue eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 207th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 25 May 1916 (number 246370) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 10 or 11 November 1917 - struck off strength to the Canadian Postal Corps, CEF, on 16 August 1918 - promoted to Acting-Sergeant.

I believe this to be John Daniel Mooney born 27 Aug 1886 in Iona, Prince Edward Island, son of John Mooney and Mary Gill.

Thanks for your comment. It appears there is both an Iona in Ontario and in PEI. Hopefully, when I get a look at Pte Mooney's military service file, I can get a comprehensive view of his wartime service. Cheers, Ken
