Born on 6 May 1899 in Glasgow, Scotland - son of Mrs. May McIntryre, Glasgow, Scotland - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Cobden, Ontario; trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 5.25 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded; weight of 124 pounds; dark complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 27 September 1916 (number 1042161) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 14 or 15 February 1918 - struck off strength to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, CEF, on 13 May 1918.
