Private John Moran, MM

Born on 1 May 1889 in Scotland - friend of Miss Eliza Jane Whalen, Oxford Station, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Oxford Station, Ontario; trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 3 inches; chest of 32.5 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Kemptville, Ontario, on 22 April 1916 (number 640112) - reported as "deserted" on 30 August 1916 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - killed in action on 2 September 1918 - buried in Wancourt British Cemetery (grave VIII.G.22), France.

Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 15 August 1918: "For fearless conduct during operations in front of Hallu Aug. 10th and 11th 1918."
