Born on 29 April 1863 in Toronto, Ontario - husband of Violet Keyes, Toronto, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address same as wife; trade as butcher; married; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 6 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; fair hair.

Joined the 166th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 13 March 1916 (number 669972) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 27 November or 1 December 1916 - wounded on 27 March 1918 - invalided to England on 30 March 1918.
