Joined the 13th Regiment, Canadian Mounted Rifles, CEF, in Lethbridge, Alberta, on 3 June 1916 (number 228446) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 5 or 6 March 1917 - wounded on 27 June 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 2 August 1917 - wounded on 4 September 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 25 October 1917 - wounded on 10 or 12 August 1918 - invalided to England on 16 August 1918.
Recommended for an unnamed decoration, but no award - unit recommendation dated 3 July 1917: "He showed indomitable pluck and grit by continuing to carry ammunition although severely wounded during the advance on La Coulotte June 26/17."
