Born on 22 August 1876 in Clifton, Nottinghamshire, England - husband of Selina Holbrook, Kinmount, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Furnaa[?] Falls, Ontario, trade as blacksmith, married, no current military service, previously served with the Australian Light Horse, height of 5 feet 11.5 inches, chest of 37 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, gray eyes, black hair.

Joined the 109th Battalion, CEF, in Kinmount, Ontario, on 25 January 1916 (number 726095) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - struck off strength to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, CEF, on 1 January 1917.
