Born on 15 February 1893 in Mille Roches, Ontario - next of kin listed as Andrew Jacques, Mille Roches, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Cornwall, Ontario, trade as paper mill worker, single, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 5.5 inches, chest of 39.25 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, blue eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 154th Battalion, CEF, in Cornwall, Ontario, on 10 January 1916 (number 633053) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 14 December 1917 - wounded on 10 August 1918 - invalided to England on 24 August 1918.
