Private Herbert James Hawley

Born on 19 May 1892 in Mount Eagle, Ontario - son of Will Hawley, Belleville, Ontario - brother of Marshall Hawley, Bancroft, Ontario - at the time of his conscription in 1918: single, Methodist, trade as farmer, no current or previous military service, height of 5 feet 2.5 inches, chest of 33 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair.

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, CEF, in Kingston, Ontario, on 8 January 1918 (number 3055736) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 or 13 September 1918 - wounded on 27 September 1918 - invalided to England on 12 October 1918.
