Private Arthur Frank Hawke

Born on 9 December 1889 in Ottawa, Ontario - son of John Hawke and step-son of Mrs. Matilda Hawke, Ottawa, Ontario - brother of Miss Elizabeth Hawke, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as grocer clerk, single, currently a member of the Royal Grenadiers (one year), no previous military service, Presbyterian, height of 5 feet 10.5 inches, chest of 39 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Smiths Falls, Ontario, on 13 February 1915 (number 410504) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - invalided sick to England on 1 April 1917 - died of disease on 24 October 1918 - buried in Beechwood Cemetery (grave Section 41, Lot 3), Ottawa, Ontario.
