Born on 9 July 1897 in Chesterville, Ontario - son of Zerney[?] Harper, Toy's Hill, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Toy's Hill, Ontario, trade as farmer, single, no current or previous military service, Methodist, height of 5 feet 8 inches, chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.

Joined the 154th Battalion, CEF, in Chesterville, Ontario, on 28 January 1916 (number 633336) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 23 April 1919.
