Born on 5 May 1897 in Menok, Russia - son of Abram Rosoph, Montreal, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1917: present address in Toronto, Ontario; trade as labourer; single; no current military service; previously served with the Home Guard (six months); Jewish; height of 5 feet 3 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; weight of 144 pounds; ruddy complexion; brown eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 9 February 1917 (number 1043025) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 7 or 8 February 1918 - wounded on 10 or 12 August 1918 - invalided to England on 14 August 1918.
