Born on 16 May 1895 in St. Mary's, Ontario - brother of Mrs. Mary Conley, St. Mary's, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in St. Mary's, Ontario; trade as laborer; single; no current or previous military service; Baptist; height of 5 feet 5 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; brown eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 110th Battalion, CEF, in St. Mary's, Ontario, on 26 January 1916 (nmber 727385) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 June 1917 - wounded on 2 or 3 September 1918 - invalided to England on 7 September 1918.
