Born on 17 February 1889 in England - son of Mrs. Matilda Maxey, Dunstan, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Toronto, Ontario; trade as gardener; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 126th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 9 December 1915 (number 775343) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - wounded on 9 April 1917 - invalided to England on 11 April 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 11 November 1917 - wounded on 2 or 3 September 1918 - invalided to England on 7 September 1918.
