Corporal Lawrence Francis Corr

Born on 21 October 1894 in Carleton Place, Ontario - son of Mrs. Hannah Corr, Carleton Place, Ontario - at time of enlistment in 1915: trade as clerk / office man, single, currently a member of "B" Company, 42nd Regiment, no previous military service, Roman Catholic, height of 5 feet 6 inches, chest of 35 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Smiths Falls, Ontario, on 17 February 1915 (number 410477) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded and captured as a prisoner of war on 10 August 1918 - repatriated on 14 December 1918 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 14 May 1919 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.

Died in 1973 - buried in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa, Ontario.

Thank you so much for providing this insight to my grandfather's life. :) There is also a record in the Canadian archives of a court martial for desertion on Feb.25/18 looking like he was demoted to the rank of private at that time. That would be a tale to know as he went on to continue fighting...subsequently being wounded and held a P.O.W.
