Born on 28 November 1885 in Ottawa, Ontario - husband of Victoria Howell, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: reade as clerk, married, no current or previous military service, Methodist, height of 5 feet 7.75 inches, chest of 36.75 inches fully expanded, medium complexion, brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 207th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 28 February 1916 (number 246017) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 September 1917 - wounded on 1 November 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 29 March 1918 - wounded on 1 or 2 October 1918 - invalided to England on 6 October 1918.
