Joined the 63rd Battalion, CEF, in Edmonton, Alberta, on 31 July 1915 - [then what] - joined the 113th Battalion, CEF, in Lethbridge, Alberta, on 9 February 1916 - taken on the strength of the 73rd Battalion, CEF, on 27 or 30 January 1917 - attached to the 38th Battalion, CEF, from 14 February to 25 May 1917 - invalided sick to England on 25 May 1917.
Unit recommendation dated 26 April 1917: "Recommended for Croix de Guerre for conspicuous gallantry and initiative whilst in charge of first two waves in operation of Apr. 9/17."
