Born on 24 March 1895 in Leicester, England - son of William S. and Mary J. Cooke, Smiths Falls, Ontario - at time of enlistment in 1915: trade as "Understands Horses", single, currently a member of "D" Company, 42nd C. & R., Church of England, height of 6 feet 0 inches, chest of 33.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, brown eyes, dark hair.
Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 5 March 1915 (number 410736) - taken on the strength of the 2nd Battalion, CEF, on 25 August 1915 - wounded on 12 June 1916 - died on 4 May 1917 of wounds received that day - buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension (grave II.F.78), France.
