Private Frederick Walter Costin

Born on 3 or 30 March 1892 in West Farley, Kent, England - husband of Ethel Jane Costin, Ottawa, Ontario - at time of enlistment in 1915: trade as gardener, married with an eight-month old son, currently a member of the Governor General's Foot Guards, no previous military service, height of 5 feet 7.5 inches, chest of 36 inches fully expanded, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, black hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 8 May 1915 (number 410064) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion in England on 6 July 1916 - later served with reserve units - discharged from the CEF as medically unfit due to malaria - joined the 2nd Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 28 October 1918.
