Captain Isaac Perry Cocke, MC

Born on 14 August 1893 in Albany, Georgia - son of Mrs. Minie Cocke, Dawson, Georgia - enlistment records provide the following: present address in Dawson, Georgia, trade as reporter, single, no current military service, previously served two years with the New Mexico State Guard, Church of England, height of 5 feet 10 inches, chest of 31 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair.

Joined the 97th Battalion, CEF, in Windsor, Ontario, on 9 February 1916 (number 208282) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 19 March 1917 - sent to England for Officers' Training Course on 5 October 1917 - commissioned as a Lieutenant - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 15 July 1918 - appointed battalion Adjutant on 1 October 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 22 June 1919.

Awarded the Military Cross (attached to the Assistant Provost Marshal, Canadian Corps) - citation: "On the night of 11th/12th August, 1918, he remained on duty directing and clearing traffic as well as the removal of wounded at great risk to his own life during the explosion of an ammunition dump caused by enemy aircraft at Domart, and by his prompt and fearless actions saved many lives and presented the destruction of property, especially in directing the removal of lorries loaded with ammunition." - unit recommendation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while attached to A.P.M. Canadian Corps."
