Private Stanley Phillip Blowing, MM

Born on 28 December 1895 in London, England - son of Mrs. Adela Blowing, Toronto, Ontario - attestation form notes trade as bridgeman (cook), single, currently a member of the Governor General's Body Guard, no previous military service, height of 5 feet 5.5 inches, chest of 33 inches, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, Wesleyan.

Joined the 38th Battalion in Ottawa, Ontario, on 29 March 1915 (number 410455) - served with the battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - rejoined the battalion on 1 November 1917 - wounded on 27 or 29 September 1918 - invalided to England on 2 October 1918.

Awarded the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommendation 17 April 1917: "For gallant conduct in carrying out his duties as Battn. runner, during the advance on Apr. 9th and the following days until Apr. 13/17."

Stanley is my Grandfather, died in California of pheumonia, caused in part by lung problems sustained when wounded in battle.

Stanley is my great grandfather and I'm proud to hear that he was a bad ass. Trench war fair, crazy.
