Joined the 59th Canadian Infantry Battalion - transferred to the 38th Battalion in Picton, Ontario, on 22 May 1915 (number 410024) - served with the battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - struck off the strength of the battalion on 13 August 1916 - rejoined the battalion on 27 or 29 November 1916 - invalided sick to England on 7 March 1917.
