Hi,

I was struck by the dates and times of your post. My great grand father william peter horrell or dovercourt toronto was transferred to the 38th on 4th of Dec 1916. I'm sure there were quite a few men transferred at that time but they might have known each other.

I forgot to mention that my great grandfather was also originally drafted into the 126th Peel, and his number was 775769.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the comment. I expect you're right. There were quite a few members of the 126th Battalion transferred to the 38th as reinforcements. I'm sure many of them knew one another.

I don't have much on your great-grandfather at this point:

Private William Peter Horrell - Joined the 126th Canadian Infantry Battalion number 775769) on 27 January 1916; taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in France on 4 December 1916; killed in action on 27 June 1917. He was a member of "D" Company during the attack on La Coulotte and Avion on 27 June 1917 and when he had reached Quebec Trench where he and his section were to consolidate their position he was hit and instantly killed by an enemy machine gun bullet.
