Born on 6 April 1871 in Bessarabia, Russia – son of Mrs. T. Truchan, Kuchevaki, Bessarabia, Russia – at the time of his enlistment in 1917: present address in Montreal, Quebec; trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Russian Orthodox; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; weight of 160 pounds; dark complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 9 January 1917 (number 1042783) – taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 – struck off strength to the Canadian Forestry Corps, CEF, on 23 March 1918.
