Private John Herbert Hailstone, MM

Born on 9 November 1892 in London, England - son of Emily Hailston, London, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as labourer, single, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 6.5 inches, weight of 134 pounds, chest of 35 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Barriefield Camp, Ontario, on 27 May 1915 (number 410503) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation unknown date (announced 14 May 1919): "For gallantry during operation near Bourlon Wood."
