Born on 11 October 1884 in Toronto, Ontario - husband of Ivy Emily Asquith, Toronto, Ontario - attestation form notes trade as shoemaker (March 1915) / stoveworker (August 1915), married, not now nor previously a member of the military, height of 5 feet 3 inches, chest of 32 inches (Mar 1915) / 36 inches (August 1915), fair (March 1915) / ruddish (August 1915) complexion, blue eyes, red (March 1915) / ruddy (August 1915) hair, Church of England.

Joined the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Park on 20 March 1915 (number 2833) - returned to Canada on 31 July 1915 - joined the 80th Canadian Infantry Battalion on 27 August 1915 (number 219122) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in England on 11 July 1916 - struck off the strength of the battalion on 16 August 1916 - rejoined the battalion in France on 28 December 1916 - wounded on 9 April 1917 - transferred to the 78th Canadian Infantry Battalion on 16 November 1917.
